Nepal Army imposes Nationwide curfew amid escalating unrest

New Delhi, Sept 10 (UNI) The Nepal Army has announced a nationwide curfew beginning today at 5 pm and lasting until tomorrow morning 6 am, citing growing threats to public safety during ongoing protests.
In an official statement, the Nepal Army said, “While peaceful demonstrations had been taking place, unruly groups had infiltrated the protests, engaging in vandalism, arson, looting, targeted attacks, and even attempted sexual assaults. The curfew aims to curb further violence and restore peace and order.”
The Army said essential services, including ambulances, fire engines, hearses, and vehicles transporting health workers and security personnel, will be allowed to operate during the curfew.
Service providers have been advised to coordinate with nearby security officials for movement permissions.
Expressing condolences for the lives and property lost during the unrest, the Army thanked the public for their cooperation and urged citizens to support efforts to contain criminal elements within the protests.
It also called on retired soldiers, civil servants, journalists, and the public to refrain from spreading or reacting to rumours, and to rely solely on official information.
Discussions among key stakeholders are ongoing to find a political resolution, the Army said, but warned that any acts of violence or destruction would be treated as criminal offences and dealt with firmly.
“The Nepali Army remains committed to the security and humanitarian rescue of all Nepalis under any circumstances,” the statement concluded.
